What Is WordPress?

Keep in mind that WordPress comes in 2 options (WordPress.com and WordPress.org). WordPress.org is more for those with coding knowledge.

WordPress is an open-source website that’s free to use. You first need your website hosting plus domain, and then you can install WordPress for free.

WordPress is great since the newest change. This change makes design customizataion options easy. You can also choose ready-made designs from free to paid.

While it might seem overwhelming, I have a guide on setting up your website today in 10 minutes! There are various features for WordPress including SEO! SEO is search engine optimization, and many will tell you that WordPress is strong with this feature.

When you’re looking for popular blogging sites you can choose Bluehost for as low as $3.99/month and get a FREE domain.

What Is Wix?

Wix is a platform that lets you build your website from scratch. In order to use Wix, you’ll head to their website and sign up. Wix also lets you have options just like WordPress as far as eCommerce, personal projects, etc.

Support

WordPress support is limited to online documentation, so you’ll need to contact your hosting provider for questions. WordPress also has an active community where you can ask questions as well.

Wix

Wix offers you video tutorials, forums, and help articles(similarly to your hosting provider). There’s a support team to help you with phone and email support.

If you’re looking for a comparable hosting platform for support, I highly recommend SiteGround. They’re who I use (with WordPress), and answer all of my questions fast.

Winner: Wix

Integration

You might need integration with 3rd party software. You might need it beyond the standard features of your site.

WordPress

WordPress has integration with plenty of 3rd party software. WordPress also offers an easy transition as well.

Unfortunately, WordPress can’t test every 3rd party integration. For example, you might find a plugin that you like, but you aren’t sure whether it’ll work with your theme or not.

Wix

There aren’t as many options for 3rd party software on Wix as there is on WordPress. There are different options though. Wix will make sure that the integrations you use will work on your site.

Winner: Tied!

WordPress Design

WordPress gives you numerous options as far as designs that others can’t top. The themes you choose from are developed by 3rd parties. You can choose between a free or paid option.

This means that you get to choose a theme that’s developed by a skilled developer. Keep in mind that you might find some themes that are outdated. Make sure that you choose a theme that has good reviews, and has been updated recently.

Wix Design

There are plenty of customization options with Wix. You can either choose from various pre-made designs or have the Wix ADI create a site for you.

Which to Choose?

WordPress is for you if you’re looking to have control over your site. You can choose from various plugins and themes to make it yours. There’s also the option to change your theme later.

Wix is good if you’re looking for a basic website, and you’re just beginning. It’s fast but might not give you the design options that you’re looking for.

What About Other Popular Blogging Platforms?

Squarespace is another popular option that you might have heard of. It’s great for creatives who are looking to create a beautiful website. You can check out the history of Squarespace, it was started in 2003 in Maryland.

Keep in mind that there aren’t as many templates to choose from with Squarespace (about 60). But, they state that they’re high-quality designs that you can choose from.
